A common question I have been getting lately is, “How do know you what necklace to wear with different necklines?” And while I certainly don’t claim to be an expert, here is my opinion on which necklaces look great with different necklines.

Turtleneck Top

If you are planning on wearing a turtleneck top, a longer necklace looks best! My top two choices are this fringe necklace and pendant necklace!

Crew Neck Top

If you are wearing a crew neck top, I think a bib necklace or a necklace slightly longer than the neckline will look best!

Scoop Neck Top

For more of a scoop neck top, layering a few simple necklaces (necklace 1, necklace 2, necklace 3) is a simple and beautiful look!

Asymetrical Top

For an asymmetrical top, a simple lightweight choker looks best!

Strapless Top

If you are going to wear a necklace with a strapless top, it should be one that is very simple and up higher on your neck like this simple choker.

V Neck Top

For a v neck tee, you should wear a necklace that matches the v! This statement necklace is perfect!

A Collared Top

For a collared shirt, a necklace that “y’s” or two shorter layered necklace (necklace 1, necklace 2), looks best.

A Cowl Neck Top

For a cowl neck top, you have two choices! You can add a long necklace or you can do a choker!

A Button Down Top

For a button down top, I love the look of a bib necklace underneath the collar!

Boatneck Top

For a boatneck top, a simple short chain looks best!

My solution for that is to just cut them in half! It still creates the look of a blanket scarf, but it eliminates half of the bulk! It’s so easy!!! The scarf I used for this tutorial is only $9.99 and comes in a variety of different colors. (I have the scarf in Plaid Blue)

  1. Lay your scarf out flat on the floor. For the tutorial shown, my scarf was sized at 55″ for all the edges.
  2. This is a little intimidating, but you can do it! Cut the scarf in half diagonally! Go slow and use fabric scissors if you have them. If you don’t have them, use your sharpest scissors!
  3. You should have 2 equal halves! If it isn’t perfect, don’t worry! The next step will take care of that! 
  4. Take one of your halves and starting at one end, pull up with your fingers gently on the cut edge to cause it to fray slightly. Do the same thing to both of the triangle pieces!
  5. That’s it! Now you have 1 scarf for you and 1 for a friend! These make awesome gifts!!!
