I really struggled over the last five years with good digestion and have tried so many things that did not work for me. I tried prescriptions, had a colonoscopy, visited a biochemist, changed my diet, and many other things. I finally found a routine of things that helped get my digestion back on track. Here is what I do on a daily basis to help me get back on track and feeling better.
If you are tired of feeling bloated, uneasy in your stomach, these things may help you too!
After visiting a biochemist, I reevaluated my water situation. I found a water routine that I try to stick to every day! Ironically, I am better at doing this during the school year. Summer is harder to stick to a schedule for me! I drink 8-10 ounces of water every hour starting when I wake up! I also wait 3 hours after eating to drink water. My biochemist said that when you drink too much water with or after a meal it dilutes the digestive enzymes in your stomach and makes it harder for your food to be digested. I have a large tumbler that makes it easy to always have water on hand. My schedule is pretty close to this….
• 6:00 am 8-10 oz of water
• 7:00 am 8-10 oz of water
• 8:00 am Smoothie & 4 oz of water
• 9:00 am 8-10 oz of water
• 10:00 am 8-10 oz of water
• 11:00 Lunch & 4 oz of water
• 2:00 pm 8-10 oz of water
• 3:00 pm 8-10 oz of water
• 4:00 pm 8-10 oz of water
• 5:00 pm dinner & 4 oz of water
• 8:00 pm 8-10 oz of water
• 9:00 pm 8-10 oz of water
• 10:00 pm 8-10 oz of water
I take two digestive enzymes with every meal to help my body digest things better. This was also a suggestion from my biochemist.
Sounds easy right?! 😉 I am a firm believer that when you eat well, you tend to feel well. That doesn’t mean that I never cheat (because I totally do!) I find my body feels better when I eat simpler – smoothie for breakfast and a protein and vegetable for lunch and dinner. Limit your gluten, dairy, and sugar.
If you are constipated like I was, these natural supplements may help you too. I take one with each meal to help stay regular. I went to several doctors, but they never found anything that really helped. I tried prescriptions and even had a colonoscopy 3 years ago. My doctor said that I was too stressed and may want to consider a career change. (Yes, teaching is stressful at times! Contrary to popular belief, we don’t just play with kids all day!)
My sweet sister recently started selling doTERRA essential oils, and they have also really helped me feel better. Even though I try to watch what I eat, I don’t always eat perfectly. When I have times that I cheat and my stomach feels upset, I rub this DigestZen oil on my stomach to really help calm things down! Want to know more about how essential oils may help you? Sounds silly and easy right?!? Taking deep breaths can really help calm your body down making it easier to digest! It is so hard to remember to do this during the day. In fact, as I am typing this, I am taking lots of deep breaths! I try to do this every time I get in my car – five deep breaths in and out.
Odds are, someone close to you may be going through the same thing. TALK TO SOMEONE! Find out what they are doing.’ Even though this is something “embarrassing”, don’t be ashamed to talk to your doctor and ask for help.
