I am excited to finally be sharing my new home office on the blog – or as Briton likes to call it, “my second closet”! I guess it kind of is my closet and office…. a cl-office??? In less than a month, this space has helped make my day-to-day life working from home function so much better! I am also sharing the life lesson I learned along the way.
I chose this Murphy bed/desk combo because this room used to be our guest room! While we don’t have guests very often, I still wanted to have a room to give them. 99% of the time, I will use it as my desk, but I love that we can fit a queen size mattress for our guests if needed. This was the only desk/bed combo I could find. However, if you just want a Murphy bed that folds up onto the wall, there are many other more less expensive options!
I don’t have much on my desk, but I love this tray and pencil holder! I read the quote on the letter board from my devotional book, and it serves as a reminder to me daily with something I often struggle with – be content.
I could not love this chair anymore! It swivels and is very comfortable to work in. I added this pillow and throw (similar) for a little extra comfort and warmth!
The built-in shelves and window seat were in this room when we moved into the house. We painted them white and used Benjamin Moore’s Gunmetal in the background. I used to have my yellow McCoy vases on display, but I switched to shoes, handbags, and jewelry for more practicality for what I am doing almost every day!
Here’s a closer look at this shelf. The tall, white stand (similar here) is one that my mother-in-law found years ago. I always envisioned it holding necklaces! I love this earring stand because I can easily see everything! And I love the bracelet stand for the same reason!
I also bought a tray for this adorable stool! It is perfect for pictures and another place to sit if needed! And of course, I could not resist this pretty bouquet of flowers!
And if you are looking for a small clothing rack, this one is a great size and was super easy to put together.
But let’s meet THE REAL stars of the office – the mirror and the rug! I fell in love with this mirror several years ago, but I didn’t have a spot for it! When we decided to do my office, I knew it was perfect. Yes, it was a splurge, but it was exactly what I needed for this space. The mirror is the “silver” color, but it is more of an antiqued silvery, gold color in person. And I wanted a rug that was both girly and beautiful! This pink rug was exactly what I envisioned. I have the 7’10” x 10’6″, and it takes up almost the entire room! Originally, I had ordered this chandelier to go in the office, but after seeing how far the bed comes out when you pull it out, I knew it was just too big for the room. I may replace the light fixture eventually, but for now, the fan is just fine.
This is what our guest room looked like before. And honestly, it was one of my favorite rooms in the house because I love this color combo. And for that reason, I totally dragged my feet in creating a space that I really needed to run my business better. And this is what God taught me during this time. Just because you are comfortable in a situation (or room, in my case), doesn’t mean it is what is best for your life (or business). Allow God to stretch you and push you past what “you think is best”. And stop dragging your feet!!
Good things await you, my friends!
